AI Is an Amplifier. That Should Make You Uncomfortable – and Excited.

There’s a question I keep getting from founders, business owners, even friends at dinner parties: “Is AI going to take my job?”

It’s the wrong question. But I understand why everyone’s asking it.

The real answer is more nuanced – and honestly, more interesting – than a simple yes or no. After building multiple AI-powered ventures at Plujo, here’s the framework I keep coming back to:

AI is an amplifier. That’s it. That’s the whole thesis.

The Ripple Effect

Picture a calm lake. Every decision you make in your business is a stone dropped into that water. Before AI, the ripples traveled a certain distance – limited by your time, your team, your budget, your reach. The stone was the same size as your effort.

AI didn’t change the stones. It changed the water.

Now, the surface is more responsive. Every stone you drop sends ripples that travel further and faster than before. A well-placed decision – a smart product pivot, a sharp piece of marketing, a better customer experience – creates waves of impact that would have taken years to build manually.

But here’s the part people forget: it works in every direction. Drop something careless into the water and those ripples travel just as far. Bad strategy scales just as fast as good strategy. The water doesn’t judge what you throw into it.

What you drop in matters more than ever.

What Gets Amplified

  • Smart operators create bigger ripples. Businesses already thinking clearly about their customers are creating waves. A founder who deeply understands their market can now test ideas in days instead of months. Same stones, but the ripples now reach the far shore.
  • Stagnant businesses watch the water pass them by. Companies that were coasting – relying on legacy advantages, avoiding hard decisions – while competitors’ ripples reach further and faster, they’re standing at the edge wondering why the water is rising around them. Standing still in dynamic water means you’re drifting.
  • Good people create waves of impact. Teachers building personalized learning. Nonprofits stretching budgets. Creators reaching new audiences. Every positive stone dropped now sends ripples further than the person throwing it could ever have carried the message themselves.
  • Bad actors create destructive waves too. Scams get more convincing. Misinformation spreads faster. The water carries whatever you put into it, and not every ripple is one you’d want reaching shore.

The Job Question, Reframed

Will AI displace some jobs? Yes. But the doom-and-gloom headlines miss that AI is creating an entirely new economy.

When the internet went mainstream, entire job categories disappeared – travel agents, video store clerks, classified ad salespeople. But it also created millions of jobs that didn’t exist before: social media managers, UX designers, cloud architects, podcast producers. The new economy dwarfed the one it displaced.

AI is following the same pattern, just faster. The people who will thrive aren’t the ones building walls against the rising water. They’re the ones learning to navigate it – asking: “What stones can I drop now that create ripples I couldn’t have imagined before?”

Where We Stand

Plujo is pro-AI. Our ventures – from AI-powered wedding ceremonies to sermon-to-devotional tools to marketing intelligence platforms – are built on the conviction that AI used thoughtfully creates genuine value.

But being pro-AI doesn’t mean being naive. It means being intentional about what we drop into the water. A couple writing their wedding ceremony isn’t being replaced by AI; they’re getting a collaborator. A pastor’s sermon isn’t being automated; it’s being extended into daily touchpoints.

The ripples only matter when a human throws the stone.

The Choice

AI doesn’t change who you are. It reveals it. It takes your existing trajectory – your skills, your discipline, your values, your laziness, your blind spots – and carries them further than they’ve ever gone before.

That should make you uncomfortable if you’ve been coasting. And it should make you excited if you’ve been building something real.

The water is rising. The surface is more responsive than it’s ever been. Every decision, every strategy, every product you put into the world now ripples outward with more force and more reach than at any point in history.

The question isn’t whether the water is changing things.

The question is: what are you going to drop in?
